President's Welcome Address - JYA/GES Inter JHS Quiz, 2013

District Director of Education, Board of Directors of Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd present, Honourable Assembly Members, Headteachers, Colleague Teachers, Contestants, Students, Ladies and Gentlemen you are all welcome to the 8th Annual Inter JHS quiz competition and second champion of champions quiz competition organised by Jacobu Youth Association in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and sponsored by Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd.

In the year 2006 Jacobu Youth Association which was established 2004 thought it wise to organise this competition to JHS in Jacobu town namely Experimental DA, R/C, Methodist and SDA. During those times, the Association’s sources of income were proceeds from our annual dinner during which we appeal for funds from all and sundry with some financial support from the then DCE and our MP. In 2009 we invited Biribiwomang J.H.S to take part

As the years went by, we grew and in Last two years we invited Amansie Royals, Afoako JHS and Patasi D/A J.H.S. Last year we were able to capture 15 schools across the District in three zones:- Jacobu, Afoako and Fiankomah. The 15 schools were Afoako JHS, Biribiwomang D/A,  Patasi D/A, Homase D/A, Kobro D/A, Mile 9D/A, Akrofuom D/A, Fiankoma D/A, Abuakwaa D/A, Abuntunso D/A, Jacobu Methodist JHS, Jacobu SDA JHS, Jacobu, R/C JHS, Jacobu Experimental JHS and Amansie Royals. In the end, St. Peter’s R/C emerged winners and remains the most cupped school in this competition.

This very year, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, this quiz captures all the 36 public junior high schools in the entire District. We must commend the singular contribution of the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator at the G.E.S - Mad. Christian Bukari for seeing us through the first round of this competition in all 8 circuits/zones to bring us to the semi finals stage. We also acknowledge the strong support she received from her colleagues at the office particularly JYA’s former president and Assembly Member for Krofrom Elctoral Area, the Hon. Benedict Boadi – Basic School Coordinator at the GES.

Eventhough, we have been able to capture the whole district, only 9 schools qualified for the semi-finals which were grouped into two zones.

Zone1schools were: Jacobu R/C, Amansie Royals, Patasi D/A and Afoako D/A JHS. St. Peter’s R/C carried the day with Patasi running up. Zone 2 schools were NumeresoJHS, Adinkra JHS, Tweapease JHS, Mile 14 JHS and Hu/Akwansram J.H.S. Mile 14 emerged first with Adinkrah running up.

We are here today to witness the champions and runners- up of the two zones battle for the ultimate prize. They are Jacobu, R/C, Patasi D/A, Mile14 JHS and Adinkra JHS.

Our set questions are predominantly based on the approved syllabuses for first and second years. The subject areas remain English Language, Social Studies/Current Affairs, Integrated Science and Mathematics.

Prizes to be won by the schools include a certificate of participation, FIFA approved soccer ball each, two t- shirts each and the winning school also takes away a set of football jersey and a trophy. All travelling schools shall have their transport catered for by the Association. Let me appeal to the Board Committee in charge of scholarships to consider including today’s winners onto their helping list in the coming year.

Prizes for the participant include 10 exercise books& 2 pens, certificate of participation, mathematical set each, customised t- shirt each and school bag. The winners also take away Oxford Advance Learners Dictionary new 8th edition. To add to this, their B.E.C.E registration would also be borne by Jacobu Youth Association sponsored by Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd.

We therefore take this opportunity to thank Management and Board of Directors of Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd who for three years running has been the sole sponsor for this programme. We also thank the district directorate of the Ghana Education Service for helping us to cover the entire District and also setting a day aside for the competition from the very beginning. We cannot overlook the District Assembly, our Member of Parliament, Johnsonkwa Ent and High Auto Sounds for their individual contributions to this program us in previous years.

District Director of Education, Board of Directors of Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd present, Honourable Assembly Members, Headteachers, Colleague Teachers, Contestants, Students, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is our hope that a year or two our quiz will be captured live either on radio or on television . We therefore appeal to all and sundry to make this dream of ours a reality.

On behalf of Jacobu Youth Association, Odotobri Rural Bank Ltd, my own behalf I wish all contestant and their schools the very best of luck.

Signed
